Meet the JANCO People

Jan Smith (Director)

Jan Smith, founder and director of JANCO, has over 25 years of experience in Education in the UK, Hong Kong and Australia. For the past 20 years Jan has been involved in the education of speakers of languages other than English. In Hong Kong, Jan ran successful General English programs for the British Council and was a tutor on the Council's teacher training programs - Certificate and Diploma TEFLA.

During her 12 years in Australia, Jan has worked in Adult Migrant English and has been involved in varying roles with several of the largest and most prestigious ELICOS Colleges in Sydney.

Jan is the Senior Team Leader for Cambridge ESOL speaking tests in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, responsible for speaking test standardisation throughout the region.

Jan carries out her STL role in close co-operation with the Cambridge Examinations office in Sydney.

Jan is also an IELTS* examiner and through her Cambridge ESOL role is able to keep in touch with IELTS research and development.

Sandra Lyons

Sandra Lyons has worked as administrative manager for JANCO Educational Services for two years, after working closely with Jan Smith in various education programs with a Sydney ELICOS College.

Sandra's experience in the ELICOS field is wide reaching. She has dealt with overseas education agents, students and schools. Most recently Sandra has had a crucial role in placement of teachers for JANCO's relief service.

It is Sandra's cheerful Irish brogue that greets you on the JANCO telephone.
